I meant to post the following late last week but with all that I had going on, it slipped to the wayside. Here is a recap of my busy-busy last week in the States:
Two Thursdays ago I had a blast hanging out with old and new friends at Harry’s. I got some great photos and videos. I hope to have them posted to Facebook in the near future. After Harry’s Adam and I went to the Cactus. I sure will miss that dance floor.
Friday Adam and I went to Dawson’s on Main with his family in celebration of Ava’s 4th birthday. I’d never had such delicious filet mignon! And Adam’s dish with horseradish steak sauce was probably the best I’ve ever had. The dinner was pleasant, company was great and it was a good night.
Saturday we drove up to Anderson to drop off my broken (yes, again) car. Then we drove by some lovely country houses on our way to Arcadia for Sam’s wrestling Sectionals. I’m so proud of him: he took first!
After showering up we made it down to Jon Potter’s for a party to celebrate Kubacki and Jason’s birthdays. It was a really nice time, and I won my first game of beer pong, haha!
Sunday we headed back to Purdue. Adam hung out at NIB’s for Kubacki’s birthday and a live band while I worked on packing up my apartment.
Monday was absolutely insane with running errands: up at 7, dropped Adam off at class since his car was in the shop, breakfast with Roy at 9:30, stop at the bank, returns to University Bookstore and Walmart, paperwork for my Study Abroad, good-bye and belated Christmas gift drop to Sean, lunch with Pirita, stop at Target, finished packing, loaded the Rendevous, and a stop at Adam’s. We made ourselves a Tropical Paradise smoothie that was really refreshing; it was really good: banana, pineapple and coconuts! I ended up staying there until 5am and then I drove home for a dentist appointment. I ran a few errands for my Mom and began to unload my belongings from the trailer and Rendevous.
Wednesday consisted of lots of phone calls and spending some time with Mom. Thursday morning I took Sam to his Cisco class and visited with Mr. Eckelman and Sergeant Major White down in the NJROTC wing. It was great to catch up with them; I’d not seen them since high school. Thursday evening Mom and Dad took me out to eat at Garfield’s for one last meal with the folks. I really enjoyed it. Dad told me about Dial-A-Sailor from when he was in the Navy, visiting Perth. Mom got a kick out of my Johnny Appleseed drawing, haha! And, of course, the food was delicious!
Friday I slept in until 10 or so and finished packing up and working on the scrapbook pages. Mom and I got some mother-daughter time in by going to a two-hour facial at Merle Norman. It was such a fun time! I really loved the eye makeup we did: I went with violets and Mom did the new spring ivy colors. Mom bought me a thing of facial lotion that works like a charm! I love it!
After the facial I left town for The Cheesecake Factory to celebrate Valentine’s Day with Adam. It was a fantastic time – the atmosphere, the food, the cheesecake and the company was unforgettable. He bought me an array of chocolates and is going to make me a hemp anklet to mail to me while I’m abroad. I bought him an antique-like coffee table box with a key painted on it. Inside was a little photo flip book, some chocolate, candy hearts, his picture frame with a favorite photos of the two of us. I also got him a little stuffed gorilla, and a couple pairs of boxers. I have to say something about the cheesecakes we ordered: they were positively amazing and fully lived up to the expectation! I chose the peanut butter chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake and Adam had the banana cream cheesecake. Both were so good! And, I must say, it was the best Valentine’s Day ever!
Tuesday through Thursday I ended up making several scrapbook pages to take with me and to give to Adam. They aren’t all finished, but I hope to get them completed this week. I gave Mom, Dad, Chucky, Sam and Adam picture frames with a favorite picture of the recipient and me in the frame.
Staying up until midnight/one-ish and getting up by 7am paid off because by the end of last week I packed up my belongings into the shed out back, and packed up my luggage for my trip to Australia. I kid you not: I was able to pack everything I needed/wanted to take for six months into four items: a suitcase, a duffle bag, a shoulder bag and a backpack. Ha!
Saturday morning everyone got up early and headed to Pendleton for Sam’s wrestling Regionals. He took second to McGinley (he’s got some upper body strength), but we are all very proud of Sam! Adam and I left after Sam’s awarding so we could start getting ready for my going-away party.
The party was a really nice event for the last night in the States. Everyone from my mom and dad’s side of the family was there, plus a few of Chucky and Sam’s friends. My Aunt Dawn and Uncle Scot gave me a really cute laptop bag; my cousins Darin and Barat gave me a gift card to Meijer, my Grandma and Grandpa Bennett gave me a necklace the used to be my Grandma’s, and my Dad gave me a silver dollar that he took around the world with him on his Navy cruises. Gosh, I’m going to miss everyone so much!
So, overall, I’m very excited about my big trip! I’m actually on the last leg of my flight over to Australia with just a couple hours left as I’m writing this. My body hasn’t been too thrilled with me since I’ve not made time for running, I’ve been sick, not getting much sleep and just feeling frazzled in general, haha. But! I’m well on my way to Oz and all is going just fine.
I’ll finish the entry in a bit: the airlines are serving us hot breakfast. (Break.) Okay, so the omelet was kind of Jello-like, so I stayed away from it; however, the hash browns, bacon, orange, muffin and tea were decent. We’re down to two hours and six minutes remaining until we arrive in Brisbane. I’ve filled out my Customs arrival card. For now I’m going to continue journaling, only in my pen and paper travelers journal. There's another post coming in a few moments. Sorry everything is out of chronological order!
