Busy in Brizzy

Goodness, it’s been busy here in Brizzy! Here’s the latest news!

I found a place to live! I’m all moved in and settled – talk about a relief! Here is my mailing address:

West End is a great area – very chic with lots of shops and markets close by. In fact, the market is literally two buildings down the street. I’m a 20-minute walk from QUT, so that’s not too bad, either. The area is infused with Greek and Asian themes, and I just love it here!

Photos will have to wait a bit because I’m leaving for the Sunshine Coast this morning at 10:30. I figured that if I had a few days of nothing lined up, I should go ahead and line something up before class stuff starts (late this week). Here’s my itinerary:

Sunday
10:30 – Greyhound to the Australia Zoo
12-3 – enjoy the Australia Zoo
3:30 – Greyhound to Maroochydore (pronounced Mar-oo-chi-dore)
5 – night at the Maroochydore YHA Backpackers

Monday
Morning – Sunbus to Mooloolaba Beach
Day – enjoy Mooloolaba Beach
Evening – Sunbus to Noosa
5 – night at the Noosa YHA (aka Halse Lodge Guesthouse YHA)

Tuesday
Day – enjoy Noosa National Park
Evening – Greyhound back to Brisbane

Wednesday I’ll unwind and work to get photos up (they’re coming, I promise – it’s just been tricky to do since I don’t have my own Internet connection yet).

Adam and I have a photo contest going. Well, we snagged the contest ideas from a photo website, but still. = ) The theme this week was “eyes,” and any kind of eyes (not just human eyes). Here are my shots of eyes. I wasn’t terribly happy about them, but I did enjoy snapping the shots, nonetheless.

I had to mention this: I bought a little thing of Tea Tree Oil balm. Australia has their own chap stick. Ha! Okay, it’s really a skin remedy oil, but I’m using it for my lips, and it works like a charm. = ) You guys know me and my chap stick craze.

Australian Differences:
*Fresh pineapple chunks cost $3.95 (about the same as the US but one might expect them to be more or less than what we pay)
*Most building’s doorways are automatic, glass slide-aways
*Windows have guard rails placed in them, and they have shudder style windows that push open; no screens (bugs haven’t been a problem)
*Shopping is light in the city (not sure what it’s like outside of the city); when you go to Target you don’t buy more than what you can carry on your person, or you can buy a shopping trolley which allows you to double the amount you can buy (still, not much in comparison to when we make a trip to Target with our cars)

New Foods, Drinks, Snacks and Lollies (aka, Candies)
*Kanagroo Macadamia Butter Shortbread (basically animal crackers with Macadamias)
*Kit-Kat’s of all kinds: tried the Strawberry Chocolate for Breast Cancer yesterday; up next: mint chocolate

Australian Slang of the Last Three Days:
*takeaway = take out
*wakey, wakey = wake up
*Brizzy = Brsibane

Okay, I best be wrapping this up. I have to pack my new backpack (woo hoo for being geared for traveling light and hiking with a good-comfy pack!). The zippers kind of suck, but I can get over that because the whole thing was only $40, and I’m totally fine with that price in comparison to $110+. All right, ‘best be scootin’!’ Haha, love you all!
